First Proper Working Bee!

Today was a most excellent day. Basically my sister and partner have been busy with their own renovation, my parents have been flat out with another renovation, so I haven't been able to get much help. Today however we managed to organise the first Working Bee - inspired by a reaction to some of the carpentry quotes I got recently.

That feeling of progress- of things actually happening - wow. I feel pretty happy front row at a favourite band's gig, or dancing and singing in the lounge with my besties, but today seemed to hit those highs too.

In the end, we laid some flooring, and worked out a bit of a plan for all the wonky walls. I also chose the Dulux colour of my exterior trim.. in about 10 seconds. White house, dark grey trim, red front door. Obviously I'd paint it pink and purple if I actually had my way.

In exchange for Kate and Nick's labour-  I will help them with some more painting for their renovation.

Packing the ute took a whole hour -the job is useless if you're without some little tool!

A quick stop for a soy latte at my favourite cafe in Footscray- Footscray Milking Station

Footscray Milking Station - which as you can see, used to be a milk bar. I notice many of Melbourne's old milk bars have now shut down or become cafes?

If I had ANY more money, I'd buy in Footscray!

 Nicey nice

First Bunnings trip of the day. Here is (5 months pregnant) Kate in her work clothes.

Laying the ducting. It was fun once I got going- decoding the map and working out which size duct and junction to use where. It was like some school camp activity - except actually enjoyable.

We were JUST able to squeeze the largest ducts under the house.

Slowly slowly, the floor gets bigger. The difficult bits around the plumbing are cut with a jigsaw.

Gluing the floor as well as nailing it ensures it doesn't squeak or move whatsoever

We left in darkness at 8:45pm. By the end, we'd laid just over half of the back part of the house.

  1. If we were there I would love to help and Alison would love to feed us. It's looking good. I hope all the bees keep busy.
