Ready for Restumping

Everything is now in place for tomorrow: Tradesmen are coming at 7:30am to begin the 2 week job of restumping the house! The final quote was $15,000 inc timber and GST.

I ended up having a temporary builders pole installed in the front garden which will soon be connected to provide electricity. In the end, this option was easier than quickly trying to fix the external parts of the house where the point of attachment from the street goes.

The lath & plaster has been a complete headache to get off the walls, scooped up and out of the house. I am so glad to say it is now all outside waiting to go. Most of the bags have holes in them and will probably burst as soon as I try to move them in to a skip. Can't wait for that.
Oh and see that paint can tied to the fence? Meet my letterbox!

Go Weeest.
I quite enjoy the frequent drives over to Footscray as long as it isn't peak hour.

Here I am last week laying a floating floor at a property my parents are renovating. I wish I was this far ahead on my own property.

I'm happy to announce that Bunnings Warehouse are sponsoring my blog - every little helps. It is Broke Home Fix after all, not Rich Home Fix. Thanks Bunnings. :D

  2. Great news about the restumping! You're really moving quickly, although it might not feel that way! Make sure you take time every few weeks to look back at all you've achieved. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. Nice to see you getting some floating floor practice in too. And it's awesome that Bunnings is sponsoring the blog!! :)

Side note: we got back to our latest improvements - entrance hall, upstairs landing/ hallway and P's room all repainted. The last of the stripy/floral wallpaper is gone, woohoo!

    1. Thank you! :D

Loving the side note update- can't believe the last of that wallpaper is finally gone. Just in time for wallpaper feature walls to be back in fashion. HA. Bet you never want to see wallpaper again. What colour did you do Percy's room? Just plain or?

  4. This seems like a big task to take on. Good luck remodeling your home and I hope you can get it the way you want it. I wish I was more handy with fixing things myself. http://www.earthwormrestumping.com.au

  5. Seems like a high price to pay for the restumping. Is it all what it's made out to be? We have seen some cracks in our walls and some other problems, but we don't know if we are ready to pay for it. How did it all work out?

  8. Gary, a good thing to do is to ask a restumping company. They'll know exactly all the things that are required. Restumping companies are professionals and know what to do.

  9. Restumping seems like a really important restoration service to have around. It can be a pretty involved process, but it sure does make for some nice piece of mind. I should see if my home needs this one of these days.

  10. I was not very familiar with the term re-stumping until I looked it up and found it here. The progress you have made on a project like this is really impressive. Being able to do a lot of the work yourself is an admirable thing. I could never do something like this myself.

  12. I think that's great that you have everything in place for the next two weeks. It's so important to be prepared before having any major house project done. You won't regret planning and preparing for the restumping process. http://jhconstruction.com.au/about_us.php

  13. Wow! You have taken on a huge project! Is this the first home you have revamped? I like to take on 'smaller' home projects; they are very therapeutic for me.
I can't wait to see the pictures when it is finished, good luck! Restumping
