- Keep the facade in period style? Definitely
- Keep the front 2 rooms in period style? Preferably not?
- Have the back lounge/ kitchen bit modern sleek? Definitely
- Wood (more traditional, period) or aluminium (modern, long lasting, no paint needed) doors and windows? Black frame?
I stole some of my Dad's precious time yesterday and took him to the house. He helped me work out the answers to a lot of questions I had, but the above remains to be considered. I need to go look at trendy apartments for sale to see how things are done.
Today some electricity company rang and said that after 3 weeks of anticipation, they could not connect my power pole - they arrived at the property and realised I needed to fill out another form. So I now have to wait until goodness knows when. I feel like Mr Burns is just sitting there cackling at me from a remote video surveillance screen - there have been many things stopping this pole being connected. Including them initially walking away from installing the pole because there were some garbage bags in the way. As a friend said today, "they have the power, there is nothing you can do" boom tish.
The restumpers said they can't really wait any longer for proper electricity so I'm going to have to go knock on the neighbour's door. AGH! I can maybe barter with them - offer them cash, or the chance to (legitimately) throw their rubbish in my skip.
On that note, good to see the whole community come together to dump things in my skip - someone has emptied their giant collection of old shoes in my skip. Yep no worries. (Google image photo so you get the idea) Maybe I should build a scarecrow in the front garden with syringes all coming out of it. Syringes collected from the house of course!

UPVC windows are pretty great - you can get double-glazed and they need no (ZERO) maintenance! New sash windows are insanely expensive and require painting etc. every few years... sure they look nice but I guess you have to decide if it's over capitalising.
